How The Kolping Guest House Project Was Funded
The original Kolping Guesthouse opened its doors in September of 2000. At this time it consisted of 6 different rooms/self catering apartments. The reality was however that the guest house was in serious need of renovations and extensions, a "MAKEOVER", in order to exist on a competitive level to financially support the Kolping Society of South Africa.
With this in mind, the reality of Donor Funds becoming a scarce commodity, Kolping South Africa was most fortunate in forging a partnership with Kolping Bildungswerk in Augsburg (Germany) who committed themselves to financing the property, building extensions and extensive renovations to the current Kolping Guest House and Conference Centre which you see standing today. This was their way of assisting Kolping South Africa, to reach the goal of financial self sustainability by passing the profits of the guesthouse on to Kolping South Africa and their projects.
OCTOBER to DECEMBER of 2000
This consisted of converting the office and store-room into Bed and Breakfast Suites - a big plus in adding to the income of the guest house.
MAY to SEPTEMBER 2001
The dilapidated and permanently moisture-laden building housing up to 6 guests was demolished to make way for a self-catering apartment and a Bed and Breakfast suite which was wheelchair friendly. The original laundry was converted to an additional Bed and Breakfast suite also wheelchair friendly.
FEBRUARY to JUNE 2002
One old self-catering apartment was demolished to make way for 5 brand new Bed and Breakfast Suites using all available land space; this included the magnificent honeymoon suite.
AUGUST 2003 to FEBRUARY 2004
By far the largest building attempt and our last. The original main house was demolished and was replaced by 3 more Bed and Breakfast Suites, 1 Self-Catering Apartment, 2 Conference Rooms, a dining room, an industrial kitchen, store rooms, public toilets, an office and reception.
And then came our beautiful swimming pool!
We re-located our kitchen and dining room into the building of Kolping South Africa for the duration of the building process.
THANK YOU TO OUR LOYAL PATRONS
In all, an incredible mess, a trying but exhilarating and rewarding time. We could not have done any of this without the loyal patronage of our wonderful guests.
We thank you for your loyal support throughout the years with Kolping Guest House.
